There are so many veteran salon owners that have experienced great success in this industry over the years and are still doing well, however their salon income has experienced a steady decline in recent years. Is this because of as many believe new regulations and the tantax? I think not.

Many times we forget the importance of re-investing and re-inventing. Because we are in such a visual industry that is so closely connected to marketing trends. It is vital that your salon always looks and feels new as though you just opened.

This is most effectively done of course by making sure every thing appears to be fresh and new. A fresh coat of pain every couple of years, new uniforms, introducing new models of equipment ever few years on up-grade levels.

Making sure you are 100% on top of today's most effective advertising trends. What worked 5 years ago will not maximize potential today. Price structure adjustments, employee training must also be fresh and current.

Growth is always connected to change. Too many times an operator will not recognize the true cause of declining sales or traffic. Re-invest and you will always be in a position to succeed. A great business model just 10 years ago will not work as well today. If you are not moving forward you are standing still.

This is also important to consider when purchasing existing salons. Chances are the salon you are buying was never re-invested in. The result is a salon that absolutely must be re-invented to be successful.

Always have a clear understanding of what it takes to be successful with any business. There are no guarantees, however the more you know and the better you are at execution will always will always give you the greatest opportunity for success.
